Bar Council proposes new duration for LLM

The Bar Council seeks to end the one year Master’s degree in Law (LLM) from the next academic session. No University can continue
with the one year course any longer. Instead of the one year course, students will now have to pursue a two years LLM course, comprising of 4 semesters.

A new entrance test named Post Graduate Common Entrance Test in Law (PGCETL) for admission to post graduate program in law has been suggested by the Council.Only LLB students are eligible to appear for this entrance exam. The Bar Council has specifically mentioned that students in any other stream will not be allowed to appear for the test even if they have studied individual law subjects in their earlier courses.

For seeking admission in their desired Universities, students need to submit their PGCETL scores along with other necessary documents. The Council has said that more details regarding the Entrance Exam will be mentioned later on.
